Otse Community Home Based Care

Providing home-based palliative care to people living with AIDS

Otse Community Home Based Care provides palliative care, rehabilitative services and psychosocial support to people with HIV/AIDS and other terminal illnesses in Otse village. The center works to address lingering issues of denial and stigmatization that still create barriers to HIV prevention and education, as well as the poverty and lack of basic necessities that are common place in rural Botswana. In addition to palliative care, the center runs a number of craft workshops with the aim of teaching clients income-generating skills.

MISSION: Otse Community Home Based Care (OCHBC) aims to give the best possible care to the terminally and chronically ill and the aged, including in home nursing, counseling and support, rehabilitation services and education on healthy and positive living and on the prevention of infection to others. OCHBC seeks to equip family members and other caregivers with the skills necessary to safely and effectively care for their loved ones. Furthermore, OCHBC seeks to educate the community, especially youth, on methods of prevention of HIV/AIDS infection and on existing government AIDS programs such as Voluntary Testing and Counseling, Antiretroviral therapy and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission.
